THE WAKANDA SALUTE- ARE WE LEAVING IT IN 2018?
January 8, 20190
Arise great Wakanda!!
The number of memes and Black-panther themed stories that arose most of last year were unbelievable. From social media networks to Halloween parties, Black Panther costumes were off the racks and on our backs. I personally was enthralled by the strength and grace that every single character depicted. Yet again, the power family made a Golden Globe appearance this 2019.
From the resilience and gentle wisdom of T’Challa to the ruggedness of Kilmonger, watching Black Panther reminded me of the strength that we possessed as a nation. Although Vibranium does not exist across the African continent, I like to think of it as Marvel’s magic to the world from our continent.
But guys, this isn’t just about reminiscing the wealthiest ‘African’ family. This is about that X-Sign-power-to-the-people greeting.
How in heaven’s name are we still crossing arms in 2019.?!
The other day, a couple of friends suggested we leave that greeting gesture in 2018, are you for it or Nah?. I think it’s great, it really is a constant reminder that we blacks put it down. In all of history, we made a mark and we don’t want the world to ever forget!
So, if you’re with me in 2019, go head -do it too!!!
