ABLOH, VUITTON AND INDIVIDULITY : The Campaign

It was just last summer that Virgil Abloh debuted his first collection for Louis Vuittonon the runway, and on Monday, he unveiled the ad campaign to match. Made up of three different sections photographed by three different artist teams.

The multimedia campaign “investigates ideas of individual perception and evolvement through lenses of inclusivity,” according to a press release, and will be released in stages over the next few months.

The first segment of the campaign, was shot by Inez & Vinoodh and is entitled “Infancy, Childhood & Adolescence.” Featuring the collection’s memorable homages to “The Wizard of Oz,” the clothing is modeled by kids that are meant to “embody the purity of infancy, still unaffected by preordained perceptions of gender, colour and creed,” according to a release.

The second segment, entitled “The Painter’s Studio,” will debut on February 1st. Created by Mohamed Bourouissa, the image is a photographic re-creation of an 1885 oil painting by Gustave Courbet that draws a clear parallel between Virgil Abloh and the French painter.

The final segment, debuting on March 22, is called “School Teens.” Shot by Raimond Wouda, the images depict teens in Los Angeles wearing bright Louis Vuitton T-shirts grappling with “the desire to belong, contrasted by the need for individuality.”
